Snap Shot
  • An asymptomatic three-year-old is brought into your office because of right cheek swelling that started one hour  ago at a baseball game.The patients is afebrile, and labs and PE are normal except for a erythematous right cheek, not warm to touch, with a mildly tender, discrete, indurated mass on palpation. Mother states the only thing he has eaten in the last few hours is a popsicle at the baseball game.
Introduction
  • An acute, nodular, erythematous eruption usually limited to areas exposed to the cold
  • Cold panniculitis results from a cold injury to adipose tissue
  • Peaks during infancy and childhood and in adult women who are obese
Presentation
  • Symptoms
    • indurated lesions that resembles buccal cellulitis
Treatment
  • Self limited
