  • A 35-year-old man with neurofibromatosis type II presents with nausea, vomiting, vertigo, and deafness in his right ear. Hemianesthesia is present on the right side of this face. 
Introduction
  • Arises in the cerebellopontine angle
  • Involves the CN VIII
    • may involve the trigeminal nerve (CN V)
  • Most commonly a benign schwannoma
  • Increased incidence in patients with neurofibromatosis type II
    • mutation on chromosome 22
Presentation
  • Tinnitus (VIII)
  • Deafness (VIII)
  • Sensory changes in the face (V)
  • Nausea/vomiting
  • Vertigo
  • Nystagmus
  • Ataxia
