Risk of mortality between 10% and 50% Underlying cause is contamination from esophageal or retropharyngeal regions Presentation Symptoms fever tachycardia increasing chest pain wound drainage Physical exam Evaluation Chest xray widdening of the mediastinum Treatment Surgical debridement and broad spectrum antibiotics
