This statement describes features of antisocial personality disorder. Individuals with this diagnosis often engage in illegal activities such as drug use, assault, or theft.

Antisocial personality disorder is diagnosed in patients 18 years or older. They often exhibit a pattern of disregard and violation of others' rights without displaying guilt. This usually begins in childhood or early adolescence and continues into adulthood. Of note, if this patient was less than 18 years old, he would be diagnosed with conduct disorder (a disruptive behavioral disorder).

Angstman et al. discuss antisocial personality disorder as one of the cluster B personality disorders. Antisocial personality disorder is associated with anxiety, substance abuse, delusional states, and factitious disorders. The anxiety, impulsivity, and anger components of this personality disorder can be treated pharmacologically with mood stabilizers, atypical antipsychotics, and antidepressants.

Gibbon et al. evaluate the beneficial and adverse effects of psychological interventions for antisocial personality disorder. They concluded that there is not enough evidence to justify using any psychological intervention for adults with antisocial personality disorder. Psychological interventions did show some improvements in behavior when the outcomes were related to substance misuse.
